Een schipbreukeling en de oceaan in een confronterende wals!
Een schipbreukeling zit vast op een kleine zandbank. Op een dag graaft hij een plastic metselkuip uit het zand en probeert daarmee aan het eiland te ontsnappen. De zee heeft echter andere plannen en neemt de schipbreukeling mee op een confronterende excursie.

De aanleiding voor het maken van deze film was de containerramp in 2019 voor de kust van Nederland, toen een schip lading verloor en er honderden containers in zee verdwenen en de troep aanspoelde op stranden en dijken. Weet je hoeveel rommel er nog steeds in zee ligt?
Soep is een korte animatiefilm die daar over gaat. Het is een verhaal over de mens en de zee. Over een schipbreukeling, zijn wanhoop, zijn pogingen om zijn huid te redden. Over de zee, constant aanwezig, af en aanrollend, meedogenloos en zachtzinnig. Het is een film over schoonheid en rotzooi. Over het aanvaarden van consequenties.

A castaway and the ocean in a confrontational walz!
A castaway is trapped on a small sandbank. One day he digs a plastic masonry tub out of the sand and tries to escape the island with it. However, the sea has other plans and takes the castaway on a confrontational excursion.
- directors statement
The reason for making this film was the container disaster in 2019 off the coast of the Netherlands, when a ship lost cargo and hundreds of containers disappeared in the sea and the junk washed up on beaches and dikes. Do you know how much rubbish is still in the sea?
Soep is a short animated film on this subject. It’s a story about man and the sea. It is about a castaway, his hunger and despair, and his efforts to secure his safety. About the sea, constantly present, rolling in and out, relentless and gentle. It’s a movie about beauty and mess. About accepting consequences.
