2. What data we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to operate this website and respond to your enquiries.
2.1 Data you give us
When you submit the contact form on the homepage, we receive the name, email address and message you provide. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes browser and device signals needed to distinguish people from automated traffic. Turnstile does not receive the contents of the form.
2.2 Data collected automatically
When you visit the site, our self-hosted Plausible Analytics instance records aggregate usage statistics such as page views, referrer, country, browser and device class. Plausible briefly processes request information, including the IP address and browser information, to generate these statistics. It does not store raw IP addresses, use cookies or create persistent identifiers.
3. How we use your data
We use the data above only for the following purposes:
- To respond to enquiries you send through the contact form.
- To keep the website secure and protect it from spam and abuse.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages and projects visitors find useful.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it.
4. Legal basis (GDPR)
We process your data under the following legal bases (Art. 6 GDPR):
- Pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b)) — when you ask us to discuss a project.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for keeping the site secure, preventing spam, maintaining the website and understanding its use through aggregate statistics.
5. Third parties we share data with
We use a small number of third-party services to operate and protect the website. Their role and the data they may receive are described below.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — for Turnstile bot protection. Turnstile processes browser and device signals, but not the information you enter in the contact form. Some processing may take place in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Plausible Analytics — self-hosted, cookieless website statistics. The analytics data stays on our infrastructure.
- Google Fonts — when you load a page, your browser fetches font files from Google. Google may receive your IP address for that purpose.
- Google Maps — when the embedded map in the footer loads, your browser connects to Google. Google may receive technical information such as your IP address and may set its own cookies.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Cloudflare and Google, are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, together with any additional safeguards required by law.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
We do not set our own marketing cookies. Plausible Analytics does not use cookies. Third-party services used by the website may use cookies or similar technologies when their features load:
- Cloudflare Turnstile, used to distinguish people from automated traffic and protect the contact form.
- Google Maps, used to display the embedded map in the footer.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.
8. How long we keep your data
Contact-form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, and no longer than 24 months afterwards unless a longer retention is required by law or by an ongoing business relationship. Plausible statistics are kept in aggregated form only.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@happyship.com.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including HTTPS for all traffic, controlled access to email and form data, and vetted processors. No method of transmission or storage is, however, completely secure.
11. Children
Our website is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects when it was last revised. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for a reasonable period.
13. Contact
Questions, requests or concerns about this policy or your data can be sent to hello@happyship.com or by post to Happy Ship, Viaductstraat 3-8A, 9725 BG Groningen, the Netherlands.
